How to order a stencil

We offer two stencil options: eC-stencils and custom stencils. Both are laser-cut from 130 micron stainless steel.

eC-stencil
The stencils that fit our eC-stencil-mate and eC-stencil-fix are called eC-stencils and are produced with special tooling holes according to the unique eC-registration-system. The eC-registration-system is a simple pin registration system offering high accuracy and an ease of use. For more information see below.

Custom stencil
A custom stencil is made from your paste layer. You can define online the borders you require on each side (minimum 20 mm). Any tooling holes required must be defined in your paste layer.

How to order an eC-stencil.
To accommodate the tooling holes required on the PCB to fit the eC-registration system, the PCBs need a border and must be ordered in a panel. For single circuits, order as a 1-up panel.
To order, click Panel and enter the panelisation required. Enter any other options required and then tick "Need a PCB and stencil for the eC-registration system?". Click “Calculate”. You will then see the prices for the PCBs and for the top and bottom stencils. Select the price you require and add the Top, Bottom, and eC-stencil-fix as required. We will automatically add the correct tooling holes for registration. Attach the data and add to basket or place order.

How to order a customer stencil.
Enter the board details as required and click Calculate. Do not tick "Need a PCB and stencil for the eC-registration system?". You will then see the prices for the PCBs and top and bottom standard stencils. Change the borders if required and the prices will be recalculated automatically. Upload you data and add to basket or place order. If you supplied a paste layer with the PCB we will use that to make the stencil. Otherwise we will build a paste layer from the surface-mount pads. If you want tooling holes or fiducials in the stencil you must include these in the paste layer.

eC-registration-system details for PCB and stencil:
The PCB requires 2 location holes of 3 mm finished diameter and the stencil requires 2 location holes of 5 mm finished diameter. The drawing shows their relative positions and should be sufficient for PCB and stencil manufacturing. All other dimensions are shown on the drawing.

Notes
1. The location pins for the PCB are sized 3H8 so they are undersized to fit the 3 mm location holes. The location pins for the stencil are 5H8.
2. The width of the location-pin blocks and the accuracy of the registration system mean that PCBs less than 50 mm wide cannot be mounted on the eC-stencil-mate.
3. All Eurocircuits standard panels comply with the eC-registration-system.
4. PCB’s marked as eC-registration-compatible in the order will be placed in a standard Eurocircuits customer panel.
5. Customer panels marked as eC-registration-compatible will be adapted with the tooling holes needed.

Need a PCB and stencil for the eC-registration system
The eC-registration-system is a simple, easy to use, yet accurate pin tooling system to perfectly register the SMD stencil onto the PCB (panel).

Stencils having this tooling are called eC- stencils. PCBs having these tooling are called eC-registration-compatible PCBs.

We will add the necessary borders and tooling holes to make the delivered panel, eC-registration- compatible.
Choose the panel option (even for single PCBs) if you want to order PCB and stencil for the eC-registration system.

Data format
All files required to build your printed circuit boards and stencil (if selected) must be placed in one .ZIP file. Do not include files that are not needed to build the PCB and/or the stencil.

Accepted data formats for PCB artwork are:
- Gerber RS-274X (Extended Gerber with embedded apertures - developed by Gerber Systems)
- DPF (Dynamic Process Format - developed by Ucamco NV)
- Gerber RS-274D (Standard Gerber with a separate aperture file - developed by Gerber Systems)
Artwork means all copper layers, soldermask and legend layers, board outline or mechanical layer, SMD paste layers, carbon layers, peelable soldermask layer, etc.

Drilling:
- Excellon (1 or 2) + appropriate tool list (ideally embedded)
- Sieb and Meyer + appropriate tool list (ideally embedded)
- Gerber format RS-274X or RS-274D (only true drill data, not a drill map)
- DPF (only true drill data, not a drill map)

IMPORTANT: supply ONLY ASCII-encoded files. These files contain readable text that our engineers can check visually if needed during data preparation.
CAD data: we can accept Eagle files only. All other CAD data should be converted into the formats above.
Maximum file size is 4 MB. Files should include the Extended Gerber files, drill files, fabrication drawing, etc.
